HALMAHERA ISLAND RETICS

Picture

HALMAHERA RETICULATED PYTHONS

Halmahera island is the largest of the Maluku island.  Its almost 7000 square miles.  Compared to Ternate island which is around 50 square miles give or take and depending on which online source you read.    Halmahera has a unique shape similar to Sulawesi, but considerably smaller.   Its located just north east of Sulawesi and just south of the Philippines.  If your interested in checking out Halmahera island heres a link.

HALMAHERA ISLAND
Halmahera retics are one of the rarest localities being bred in captivity.  In the US, theres only 1.1 known still living wild caught halmaheras.  Years ago in indo there was a halmahera x tiger breeding done.  But outside of that theres been really no morph cross projects with halmahera retics.  The potential for creating new colors and patterns for morphs with halmahera traits is completely untapped.
Picture
Halmaheras have a darke look typically.  Though there has been a handful of lighter ones, for the most part they have a very dark color palette.  Noticeably darker than saputrai.  Halmaheras are not as heavy bodied as saputrai but not as thin as mindanaos.  Below is videos showing color and body type of an adult halmahera reticulated python and F1 offspring.

As you can see from the videos halmaheras are very dark retics.    I have yet to do any morph crosses with halmaheras so i dont have any videos to show exactly how halmahera traits effect the look of morphs.

Halmaheras seem to fall into the dwarf size range of retics.  Based on the ones being found on Halmahera and the ones in captivity halmaheras seem to average in that 8ft to 14ft range.   My wc female is the largest one i know of.  She right around that 13 to 14ft mark.

Halmaheras are more aggressive then other localities iv worked with, which is close to 20.   The wild caughts do become manageable and the F1's are very easy to work with as long as they are handled when they are young.  You have to put the time into halmaheras when they are young if you want to have a friendly adult.

Halmaheras lay large eggs typically in that 200 gram range, give or take.   Hatchlings typically range in that 120 to 170 grams.  Which is more so relative to factors of incubation.  The variation of hatchling size is subject to so many factors that you cant really say what they "should" weigh when they hatch.  Thats just the averages im seeing.

I hope this was helpful.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me.  If your interested in purchasing a halmahera retic heres a link to what i have available
